The Multi Purpose Database, created under the project Marleanet, inspired in other Database created under an international project that Mútua promoted - Celebration of Coastal Culture (Mútua/EEagrants/Sines municipality) was awarded by Outsystem enterprise - the company responsible for developing the Agile platform - with the Agility Award. As the name indicates it is a platform that allows a relatively short space of time architecting an innovative IT project, which in this case was vital to Mútua, which had to meet strict deadlines, imposed by the characteristics of the Project.
This award aims to distinguish how a concept or idea is developed using this platform. Programming MpDB was in charge of the company Normática through its developer Ricardo Gaspar.
Developing of MpDB continues, with the input of our European partners and national partners, and will be available to training centers and other entities related to the maritime world, for release and sharing of information and knowledge related to maritime training.
The award attributed to Normática and Mútua was received by Mútua's Director, João Paulo Delgado, and by CEO of Normática, Martinho Bernadino Almeida, in a public cerimony, during the anual Outsystem event, NextStep 2012, held in Lisbon, on the 11th of May. João Paulo Delgado is also a trainer and has contributed to the development of the MpDB, and a good example of its end users.
The whole team is to be congratulated!
Following is the text presenting the MpDB and that will be present in the "Wall of Fame" of the company, from June on - http://www.outsystems.com/company/agility-awards/
Project Description:
The Multipurpose Data Base (MpDB) was created under the project MARitime LEArning NETwork (Marleanet), an European project (under EU/FEDER Atlantic Área finacing program) for maritime training promoted by CEFCM and integrating National Maritime College of Ireland – NMCI (Ireland); Centro Tecnológico del Mar – CETMAR (Spain); Université de Bretagne Occidentale (France); Escola Superior Náutica Infante Dom Henrique and Mútua dos Pescadores-Mútua de Seguros, CRL, from Portugal.
This database is the main contribution of Mútua dos Pescadores to the project. Mútua is a consumer cooperative (insurance activity), and its contribution to the partnership is based on its quality as an insurance company specialised in maritime activities and in its practice with communities in raising professional awareness in the fishing industry towards the security and safety of human life at sea.
The MpDB solution is part of the Marleanet portal, a pan-European maritime organizations’ portal for sharing and disseminating maritime information. MpDB extends Marleanet by providing one place to find maritime training at regional, national and international levels. In addition, it provides information on various maritime organizations and acts as a public library of important maritime documents.
Quote
“MpDB represents our [Mútua dos Pescadores] commitment to the other members of the Marleanet * project, to training for maritime professions and to the environment. The ultimate goal of the project is to create the next generation of maritime training, going, even beyond, international standards. We had a very tight schedule for the initial phase so we decided on the Agile Platform (and methodology): The great implementation speed, supported by constant user feedback, allowed us to go beyond our wildest expectations and meet all the requirements in time, with what ended up being a highly customizable application. The end product is certainly what we can call a ‘game changer’ for the industry!” (Maria do Céu Baptista, Project Coordinator for Mútua dos Pescadores).
