The Sea Technology Centre is a Foundation created on the initiative of the Xunta de Galicia – regional government- and the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (Ministry of Science and Innovation).
It was created with the aim of improving conditions for sustainable development of the coastal communities and the marine resources and ecosystems, contributing to improve efficiency on all activities related to use and exploitation of the sea and its resources. With this aim, CETMAR fosters inter-institutional cooperation between research centres and the marine sector, and encourages a greater involvement of the marine production sectors in R+D+I activities.
CETMAR’s actions extend to the National, European and International fields, whereby all public and private sectors related to the sea and its resources, and the marine environment in general, are beneficiaries of its activity. The Centre is organised around eight work areas to guarantee a multidisciplinary scope. The training area is responsible for the MARLEANET programme.
Human resources are up to the challenge, highly qualified. It is remarkable the gender parity of the workforce, that had a 51% of women during 2009.
2001: CETMAR creation.
2008: Establishment of the Marine Technologies Unit
2009: More than 200 partners collaborated with CETMAR (Institutions, research centres, enterprises related to marine production sector...) in 98 projects; 93 people’s staff; 776 trainees on the 56 training actions organised.
